Musicus Fest’s 2016 Children’s Concert takes everyone on a ride from 15th century Provençal France to the adventures of a lovable pachyderm. In French composer Milhaud’s work, The Fireplace of King René, audiences young and old will be introduced to the royal court of King René I of Provence. The music is set to such themes as jugglers, jousting knights, and a royal hunt in the forest. And speaking of animals in the forest, the program then moves on to the star of the day, Babar the elephant. As the narrator chronicles all the twists and turns of Babar’s escapades – from an orphan baby to being crowned as King (or could it be Queen!) – the audience will be treated to a vivid musical performance that captures all the tenderness and drama for which this beloved story has been famed since it first appeared in 1931.
