Musicus Heritage – A Fiddler in the City: Improvising on Hong Kong with Pekka Kuusisto

  • Date & Time
    24 Nov 2016 (Thu) 7:30pm
  • Venue
Xiang Hai Xuan, Nan Lian Garden
Hong Kong is world famous for its stark contrasts, such as that between the traditional and the modern, or the spiritual and the worldly. Ensconced within the urban labyrinth of Kowloon, Nan Lian Garden’s meditative serenity is the perfect metaphor for our city. To further underscore this dynamic and ongoing juxtaposition, world-renowned violinist Pekka Kuusisto performed a scintillating program inspired by Hong Kong’s unique cityscape together with his own original music, much of which will be improvised spontaneously. In addition, there were also the world premières of two new commissioned works from young Hong Kong composers dedicated to the magical setting of Nan Lian Garden and its surroundings (Denise Mei Yan Hofmann “Lotus Rain”; Hippocrates Cheng “Tranquility and Purification”).
