Musicus Fest 2014 opened with Artistic Director Trey Lee performing alongside Russian virtuoso Yuri Bashmet and the Moscow Soloists in a unique cross-cultural program. Lee played one of Tchaikovsky's most beloved works, the Andante Cantabile for cello and strings, while Bashmet tackled Tan Dun’s Eternal Vow, a piece inspired by the film 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' and specially rearranged by the composer for the celebration of Bashmet's 60th birthday in 2013. The program also included breathtaking virtuoso concerti for cello and viola from Boccherini and Paganini, and ended with Tchaikovsky's romantic masterpiece Souvenir de Florence.
